sven weisemann is set to release his ‘bilateral relations’ ep via copenhagen’s echocord this september, comprising four originals from the german producer. sven weisemann has been immersed in the underground house and techno scene for quite some time now having started djing in 1997 during the rise of the scene on his home turf of berlin and going on to release material via the likes of amsterdam’s delsin, mojuba, telrae and liebe.detail amongst many more. here though we see sven joining the roster of echocord, a perfect fit for his more dubbed out compositions with artists like fluxion, rod modell and stl on the roster. ‘lunation’ opens the release and sees weisemann fuse emotive string melodies and cavernous vocal echoes with off- kilter rhythms and rounded sub hits before title-track ‘bilateral relations’ embraces a more direct four-four approach via sparse percussion and tumbling toms alongside choppy bass stabs and ever-unfolding, echoing dub chords. opening the flip is ‘monistic’, an airy ethereal number employing billowing pads, bright synth chimes and a dropped tempo dubbed out feel to create something truly stunning and thought provoking before the ‘decimation (valvle tr9 mix) closes things on a darker tip with looming stab swells, heavily swung drums and sporadic growling bass drones.

danish composer the swan and the lake is at it again with his trademark widescreen soundscapes wrapped around eight new tracks of exquisite scandinavian balearica. with the release of his first album -moments- last year on copenhagen’s music for dreams, we were introduced to a unique artistic vision. with one foot in the ambient chill out spectrum and the other in everything from classical avantgarde, idm and jazz, the music of emil svane breum under his alias the swan and the lake is both very accessible yet complex. on his new album -clouds- we see him expand on those same ideas and with seemingly simple means achieve extraordinary strong emotions. opening side a, the jazzy intro of -fresh food- leads us into a sublime piece of hazy ambient groover that could easily be mistaken for a lost 80s production from japan. -clouds over Østerbro- keeps things playfully cool and adds elements of scat singing and xylophones, layered over breum’s shimmering bright chords. while the title suggests we are still on danish soil, this feels like a five minute vacation to a tropical paradise. guitarist johan liepstack makes a guest appearance on -summer in december- which comes off as an understated anthem that could break out into euphoria at any second, but manages to stay in a sombre state all the way through. on the track -plastic pacific ocean remake- we are visited once more by airy vangelis-like vocals which assume the role of a nurturing angel, guiding us to a comforting state of relaxation and healing, as breum lays down an overwhelmingly beautiful synth serenade with chords that hit you right at the core of your most vulnerable state. flip over for the mallorca inspired track -port d andratx- which comes in two versions - part 1 (sun) shines like a perfect escape into that cafe del mar/ hostal la torre sunset while the more deep and melancholic part 2 is aptly named rain. the gentle trickling of -waterfalls- sees breum mimic the eternal cycle of water, creating an organic and ethereal composition that stretches out seemingly without beginning or end. and finally on -heaven’s voice- we see breum in his most epic and emotional mood, as he steers us through a slow explosive force of cinematic sounds. it all ends with a heartfelt spoken word contribution by guest vocalist neonbi.

chicagoan artist vincent floyd has been releasing music for 27 years now. with stand-out records for the legendary dance mania and some more recent outings through amsterdam connaisseurs rush hour recordings, vincent floyd crafted a 4-track package of original cuts, which will be released as the seventh instalment in the pulp series. the vigorous sounds of “circles (dub)” consist out of loose percussion, piercing synth work and a snappy vocal that cuts through at just the right moments. in the classic style of a sizable amount of dance records throughout the earlier days of dancefloor-music, an instrumental version of “circles” is including on the a2 position. “skewed reality” is an extravert piece of music that revolves around an emotive synth lead and nicely timed drums with a very human feel to them. the soothing pads form the back bone of this journey through exalted melodies. “morning storm” serves as the pulp07 grand finale. in this cut vincent again showcases his ability to mould many melodic elements into a cohesive sounding piece of music. “morning storm” is a bright piece of work with delicate melodies and beautiful playful drum patterns.

first ever reissue of “rito esclavo”, pedro laza’s eighth album as leader of los pelayeros, originally released on discos fuentes to great success in 1961. . this early fuentes classic lp is distinguished by high quality engineering that holds up brilliantly more than half a century later, with bright and deceptively intricate interlocking brass featuring a distinctive reed section, rolling tropical percussion and a wide variety of caribbean rhythms from both colombia (cumbia, porro, paseaíto, fandango) and cuba (cha-cha-chá, mambo).

benjamin brunn is back with two long turn jams. -i dream, sometimes i think- is a brunn signature track build on a detroitish bass line that fits perfectly to bright, melodic synth chords. -(t)issue - a shoe - uwe- on the flip side is made of reduced pattern music slowly growing into solid space loops. growers in full effect.

rich la bonte is a musician, writer and editor from upstate new york born in 1946. at age 11 he figured out how to record a piano backwards with his first tape deck and discovered monk, mingus and art blakey. in 1965 rich moved to ithaca, bought an electric guitar and started singing in garage rock band the huns. after the band dissolved, he moved to nyc and played bass and sang in the original cast production of the musical godspell. in the late 70s la bonte moved to hollywood with shari famous, released a a few 7” singles as dada2, and started flatdisk records, a vinyl subsidiary of dave gibson s moxie record company.

it s all going on for cervo at the moment. having just launched the banana hill label with an excellent record from majid bekkas (that he also did an edit for), the uk-based producer has now been snapped up by marcel vogels lumberjacks in hell label to drop more of his worldly edit science. on rhythm leads the charge with confidence on the a-side, using a bubbling, afro-infused disco-funk source and making it lean and mean for the floor. there s a distinctly nigerian lilt to the guitars that cluck away through dancing dream, but it s accompanied by bright chiming chords and a solid beat that will stand up to any contemporary house jam. banku is even more explicitly modern, although still layered up with gorgeous vocals and percussion from africa

the second edition of vicarious memories by these hidden hands realises 5 finely crafted remixes of last years expansive lp of the same title. this version features powerful reworks from telefon tel aviv, hypoxia, lustmord, jk flesh and death in vegas. telefon tel aviv offers up his reinterpretation of glasir a solemnly disconcerting reduction of the original flooded with warmth, depth and space. this is followed by a contribution from hypoxia aka the illustrious drumcell, who makes his mark on the beautiful vocalised track telepath, imparting a heavy sense of melancholia and depth on to the listener. a dark atmosphere is woven by lustmord on his remake of socotra, with its enveloping celestial melodies and ominous reverberating drones that unfold throughout. jk flesh boosts the energy of the release with his distinguishably distorted mix of industrial, dub and power electronics that shuffle and roll the listener along this spectrally bright reincarnation of dendera light. british producer death in vegas embraces the mystical facet of angkor, patiently exploring serene soundscapes with much depth and colour.

ed davenport continues his full-spectrum techno experiments as inland with an elegant new ep on counterchange entitled coriolis. the title track coriolis is a moody 10 minute voyage with a morphing synth array at its core - bright, detuned stabs are layered upon tough rhythmic foundations. the jagged metallic lead builds, unearthing harmonic bleep accents and syncopated fx swells, before folding in on itself leaving the effective tribal drum section to ride on. d10d3 plows forward with an urgent staccato sequence, segueing into italo-horror filter sweeps and noise-laden moments of drama. finally tsereteli is a more reduced modern dub study, continuing ed s long running fascination with tranced-out time stretching and after-hours vibes. the 9th release on the label, the record features cover art by uk artist guy archard and is pressed on 180g vinyl.

never underestimate a quiet guy. soft spoken and well-mannered alexander pletnev moved 3 years ago from the russian city of st. petersburg to the lithuanian capital of vilnius. that has been more than enough time for him to make the city his own. a co-founder of a hip barber’s shop that also hosts an improvised vinyl second hand corner, not to mention a cozy little bar where he can be found serving a quirky selection of beers, alex soon embraced influences filtered through the local nightlife institution ‘opium club’. his production powerhouse pletnev explores darker territories and far-out music lands untouched by his bright and melodic creative alter ego - ponty mython. the st. bones ep follows his well received and strongly selling offerings on meda fury and bahnsteig23. the ep’s two tracks, of contrasting mood and tempo, are accompanied by two top drawer remixes from the japanese tailor of sound and taste ryota opp and on-the-rise fellow st. petersburg producer and selector, inga mauer.

next up on the docket for acid camp records is a record created by duo john tejada and justin maxwell. the pair came together to make acr iii with two things in mind: creating sounds that put a smile on their face while possessing as much character as possible. the opening track, -i ve got acid (on my brain)- is a mind-bending wavetable freakout, the likes of which tejada and maxwell have been striving to do for years. using a vintage ems vocoder to create an original vocal sample, this track is bright, playful, & vivacious. -the name rolls in- is layered in an acid playground of sounds. a rhythmic track with a potent 303 bass line, prominent percussion, and that infamous vocoder back at it to create a distinctly groovy track. -field notes-, is a composition of celestial arrangements that is completely beatless. carried through by tiers of sounds, filters, and noisier elements, this track lulls the listener into an alluring sonic dreamscape.

enter tsuruda. championing one of the most innovative and heartfelt collectives in the los angeles area, this salt lake city native has a very bright future ahead of him. expertly combining the hard-hitting percussion of trap, the swagger and depth of hip hop, and a style of sampling and melody creation all his own, tsuruda truly brings a unique and gripping sound to the stage. in a scene where true originality and heart is often difficult to find, tsuruda follows a similar path to artists like ta-ku and mr. carmack. he understands his love for music and his own struggle, and brings them into the light for his listeners. following his extensive body of work be sure to look out for his album “move”, dropping on noisia’s division imprint soon.

dispersion is an ep deep in style, talent and wonder. embellishing the underground kudos of berlin-based techno dj and producer avion, owner of the hotly tipped, and renowned imprint crossing, dispersion is an eclectic mix of cerebral, uncompromising and colorful techno. title track dispersion is a gleaming display of spacious dancefloor beats melancholic, yet industrial. real is clinical, functional techno, emulating some of the wizards influential magic. inverse blends together a contemporary approach to sonic aptitudes, while remaining a strictly dancefloor and body orientated, while enidan a colorful moment of ambient beauty, plays the ep out. it is the first release on marcel fengler s regarded, techno imprint imf in 2017. dispersion is an ambitious, and unique ep, from a true underground and mysterious talent. the eps style embodies the bright, hypnotic and pulsing music that has characterized his releases to date on crossing. talking about the release, fengler states, he got my attention after some pretty strong releases on his own imprint crossing. i felt that this was something i didnt have on my label, but still reflected the idea of imf.

coming out of the audio plants fraternity, ukranian drum & bass artist pageant brings a bright and breezy musicality to the scene on this expansive debut album. the beats come through clear and punchy while the instrumentation takes its lead from ltj bukem s smoother moments to results in a very palatable kind of liquid drum & bass. this is as feel good as the genre can get, and with its wide scope for natural and synthetic sound sources it never tires on the ears. whether it s the soaring vocal of elena aki on space song or the expressive guitar trills on taxi driver, there s always something catchy to draw your ear in to pageant s smooth as silk soundworld.

picking up right where ep 1 left off, ep 2 kicks things off with a bang. first up is catz n dogz and yotam avnis for blakkat a high pace burner ideally suited for dance floors from panorama bar to under the leds of watergate and every club in-between. the duo return with the bright version of afterglow for the second cut on ep 2 and aptly titled, it pushes an intense, glitter filled ride to its limits. embarking onto the b-side, o.a. peas from heavy hitter eats everything & lord leopard take a trip down memory lane with a heavily sample based feel good tune that will absolutely demolish dance floors worldwide. rounding out the ep is a final collaboration between catz n dogz and reno wurzbacher with ma people and its by far the smoothest and most laid back tune of the bundle, but never does it let you rest as a mesmerizing groove and lush atmospherics tell a deep, complex tale of late nights and early mornings.

james dexters star has been rising for a while now - the young brit turning out killer tracks regularly on the back of hugely well received dj sets. on his second outing for dessous recordings, dexter does what he does best - four slices of deep, funky and vibing house music for the floor. lead track drift is typical of dexters flair for subtle, edgy sounds, wrapped inside a warm and inviting groove. elements come and go, but the shuffling, infection feel runs throughout. take me is a more upfront vibe with a seriously bumping groove - dexter clearly well versed in the roots of house music from chicago. ‘whose rules ?’ is a snappy, bright and lively production, with a sub bass that will troubler some of the world’s best club systems in the coming months. the light, jazzy vocals offsets the groove perfectly - sure to be a big tune for a wide variety of djs. the last track of the release is disco deep - and it pretty much does exactly what it says - a swung, groovy feel punctuated by disco claps and balearic flourishes that will sound as good on the beach as in the basement.

new years deal - delsins next trick is a debut double 12 from sentomea, an amsterdam native, real name sander schuurman, you might not have heard of but a real synth freak. exclusively producing his music in hardware-based live takes, and that gives rise to perfectly imperfect stuff that feels visceral and alive. often making music with a visual connection, this ep is full of versatile 909 beats and fizzing electronic textures. relative solace is up first and is a frosty house trip with bell textures and melancholic strings sounding all celestial and heavenly. wander is all about a sludgy 909 groove being lit up with bright strings and icy hi hat ringlets as dissonant pads stretch and skew all about the arrangement then fortitude boogie has classic detroit pads, a lovely broken rhythm and a funkateer bassline that makes the whole cut dance and emotional dance. fluid is more stripped back and clean, with rubbery 909 drums plodding below w atery, gurgling synth sounds up top and this most expressive and textural ep closes with the experimental fm synthesis that is matter with its raw, off beat grooves and glassy surfaces, and finally reminiscent, a horizontal, star gazing cut that encourages you to lay back and day dream in the grass.

one in a million leads with a bright 90s garage house beat reminiscent of disclosure before breaking into the kind of danceable indie-pop swagger that will excite fans of lcd soundsystem and hot chip. replete with remixes from zomby and playgroup this 12inch sets a precednt for olsson 12inch release where he kindly asks his heros to reimagine his work. in this case two of electrtonic musics most exciting and consistent names step up.

the cocoon recordings very own inhouse compilation series dots and pearls is back once again and takes us on a tour to the expected sounds of the upcoming spring season. frankfurt based christian burkhardt starts the selection of four exclusive and previously unreleased tracks. his -karambolage- breathes spring air and creates an early summer feeling par excellence. this tune will even turn gray and rainy april weather into bright sunlight. on spot with playful and positive harmonies and a very subtle 80 s synthie-pop flavour. this one here definitely makes us want more! next in line is argy, one of our most long standing cocoon recordings artists. his -how late it was, how late- has an undeniable 80s retro charm, too however it follows a completely different direction than burkhardts -karambolage-. this one refers strongly to an early 80s acid sound and reminds us of great productions such as -on and on- by jesse saunders. we cannot tell how far argy s reminiscences goes back but for the ones who know: -how late it was, how late- will bring you back to the great times of labels like rams horn and their rational youth s -dancing on the berlin- wall. brave and surprising at the same time and above all: -übercool-! with -baroon- by markus fix follows another acid track - however, this one has a far more epic flavour full of warm analogue strings and based on a hypnotic arrangement. fix -baroon- is defintely less retro than argys and burkhardts contributions - a deep tech house gem made for the first sunrises of the upcoming allnighter open airs. with -euphrasia- jim jules accelerates slightly but goes also deeper at the same time. his production follows the cinematic mood of markus fix but paints a darker picture. this one takes us on an intensive musical journey. deep, slightly gloomy and extremely hypnotic, -euphrasia- is almost captivating and bewitching and a perfect conclusion for this highly diversified fourtracker.

the next cosmos release comes from salomon dunkan, a mysterious and unknown producer who serves up two tantalising tracks... . android (adamantium mix) is a slow and percolating house track with a rugged acid line and sharp percussive knives cutting up the rubbery kick drums below. swirling pads add a cosmic atmosphere and there whole hits slowly but surely builds to a raging and intense peak of bristling hits and gurgling synths. it s controlled chaos and then tacchi a spillo treads a more direct path. again the high hats are bright and sharp, the mood is very sci-fi and the bass lines rumbled down low. like a deep space odyssey this one travels far and wide and grows ever more physical and jacking as it goes on.

what can you expect? take the best fusion-band ever (chick coreas return to forever), some james brown funk, synth-fun like tangerine dream and even a bit of hardrock, and youre getting close. this is zappa, the flemish zappa: cool,funny, sad, difficult,no record for those who love the traditional verse-chorus-verse, and so probably as uncommercial as it can get
